Our success rate is 95% or better from our stud services. My little guys are of excellent quality and ALL are Fully AKC Registered. Stud services are also guaranteed in writing. Please feel free to email or call with additional questions. Below you will find helpful and important information on when your female needs to be bred, what to do in preparation for the event, and what to expect during pregnancy, whelping, and rearing of the puppies. I hope you find the following information helpful in the meantime, and request that you read the Stud Services Page in it's entirety before booking your Maranda Farms Stud, thank you.
When do I know my female is ready?

It is very important to mark on your calendar the very first day you see a bloody discharge, also known as spotting. She will be ready to breed on the 10th & 12th day after bleeding begins. Females come into heat approximately every 6 months. The first heat usually comes between 6-8 months of age, you should never breed a female at this young age. The second heat should come approximately 6 months later, this is when a female is typically bred for the first time. Some females will swell slightly before spotting begins, some will become more friendly than usual, some will show concern towards their hind end by licking and/or cleaning themselves way more than usual. Some females will show no "pre-heat" signs at all. When you think the time is near you need to place a white sheet on her normal bedding so that you are sure to notate the first day of bleeding, it is very important to write this date down on your calendar. You can also take a napkin and dab her after she goes potty to check for the first signs of bleeding. As soon as you see blood, mark the day on your calendar and then count the next day as the first full day. You will also need to schedule your stud service with us right away to reserve the stud of your choice for the 10th and 12th day after bleeding begins. Please do not bring your female before the 10th day, the male will not be interested, she will not be willing, and pregnancy cannot happen. It is better to breed later in the cycle than too early, I know it is exciting and you don't want to miss the right timing , be patient, too early will do no good.
What if my female is already spotting and in heat and I don't know the exact date the spotting started?

If your female is bleeding, it is not too late for breeding. By the time the 10th day comes around the spotting will have turned to a very light pink color and it will be evident that stage of her heat cycle is almost done and she is ready for breeding. If you notice her spotting and it is red with spotting on her bedding almost each time she sits down she is probably 1-6 days into her cycle, call and reserve your stud and we will talk about where she is at in her heat cycle. Right away you need to place a white sheet on her usual bedding. After reserving your stud with us, you will still need to check her 2 times a day by dabbing her with a napkin and/or making sure that there are fresh "spots" on her bedding. If the spots are bright red, everything is okay, if the spots are light pink or pinkish brownish and only a couple of new spots that day then she probably needs to be bred A.S.A.P.
What do I do, or not do, before the stud service takes place?

After you have reserved your stud service there are some very important recommendations I have for you:

1) As soon as you see that your female is bleeding you will only have 1 or 2 days to work with to get her bathed and groomed if she needs it. If you come for the stud service with a freshly bathed or perfumed female the stud will not be able to tell that she is in heat and will not be interested in breeding her. Groom or bathe your dog right away and have atleast 3 days before she comes out for the first stud service. I like to bathe and groom (haircut) my females as soon as they come into heat for 2 reasons....

A) A good haircut is helpful before the puppies are born.

B) I do not like my pregnant dogs to be handled or stressed at all during pregnancy. The last thing I would want to do is take a big pregnant dog to Petsmart to sit up there half the day barking her you know what off at the other dogs and getting worked up. If you do take her to be groomed, remember, no flea treatment or flea shampoo.

2) As soon as she comes into heat you must stop ALL FLEA TREATMENTS until the puppies are 1 week old. At 1 week old, you can treat the mom with Frontline or advantage, not the puppies though. Birth defects and deformities can occur from pesticides which is what ALL flea treatments contain. This means no topical flea treatments (Frontline, Advantage, Etc.), no granules to treat the yard for ants, fleas, etc., no ant poison, no flea dips, etc. These poisons should not even be anywhere outdoors where she will be walking....poisons can be absorbed through the foot pads. No vaccinations either! You will want to treat your female as you would a pregnant human.

3) As soon as she comes into heat you need to start her on a premium dry puppy food, you can even mix it with any type of canned food. Puppy food contains more vitamins and nutrients than regular adult food, and it is important that she eats well all through her pregnancy, and then the entire time she is nursing puppies as well. I recommend any dog food that has "chicken" as the main ingredient, NOT chicken by-product, chicken meal, corn, etc..JUST CHICKEN as the first ingredient listed on the actual ingredient label of the package. Contents on all ingredient labels are required by law to be listed in the order of amount. So if chicken is the first ingredient that means that it is more chicken than anything else and that is important.

4) You also need to start her on a good vitamin...I recommend "NuVet Plus Canine"...you can order it from www.nuvet.com or call them at 800-474-7044 and they will ask you for this I.D. # 58105, you cannot place an order without this number. Compare the ingredient label from their web site with any other vitamin, NuVet is the best, not available in any stores or at any veterinarian.

WHEN YOU COME ON THE 10TH DAY, OR 1ST STUD SERVICE, I WILL GIVE YOU COMPLETE AND DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO TELL FOR SURE WITHIN 24 HOURS WHEN THE PUPPIES WILL BE BORN, HOW TO HELP DELIVER THE PUPPIES AND THE SUPPLIES YOU NEED TO HAVE ON HAND, HOW TO HELP "SLOW" PUPPIES GET GOING RIGHT AFTER BIRTH, AND TONS MORE INFORMATION!!!

What do I bring to the stud service?

You will be bringing your female to our home on the 10th day and again on the 12th day. There is no need for her to stay overnight as you would make the same 2 trips whether she stays or not, an unnecessary overnight stay can be stressful. This is what you need to bring:

1) Bring your female NOT bathed and no cologne for past 3 days atleast (for stud scent purposes).

2) Bring a leash to walk her in our front yard if needed.

3) Bring her diaper and/or an unwashed small blanket or towel that she has been using to sleep on for the past few days, (for scent purposes).

4) Please leave children at home if possible for obvious reasons.

5) Stud Fee-All stud fees are $300 cash/credit/debit card to use any of our studs.
Questions & Answers
(Please Read)

I know I want my female to have puppies but she is not in heat yet, is there anything to do in the meantime?

ABSOLUTELY! Have her teeth cleaned (annually) and make sure she is up to date on her vaccinations (annually). Why is this important? Teeth can harbor bacteria, resulting in infections of all kinds which can result in premature labor, heart trouble, and other serious problems. Vaccinations are just as important because newborn puppies get their immunity and antibodies from their mom during nursing. The mom is only able to pass these important antibodies along to her puppies if she herself is current on her vaccinations. Once you breed your female it is then too late to vaccinate. Vaccinations during pregnancy will abort the puppies. Antibodies are passed on to puppies through the mom's milk, this helps the puppies immune system to fight off diseases until they are old enough to have their own series of vaccinations, just like with humans.
Stud Fee & Guarantee

The stud fee is $300 due in cash at the first breeding. If you wish to pay with a Credit/Debit Card you can use the button to the right and pay for the stud service BEFORE bringing your female to be bred. I do not have a credit card "machine" and using my computer while you are here to pay for the stud service can cause a security glitch preventing a payment to be made. Please do not pay the stud service fee until you have confirmed with me that the stud you wish to use is available. If we are unable to breed your female at the first breeding I will refund the Credit/Debit Card payment while you are here. Once the breeding has taken place, the stud fee is non-refundable but in the event that atleast 1 live puppy is not born you may use the stud of your choice at the next heat cycle at no additional charge. The written guarantee, receipt for your $300 payment, and complete birthing instructions are given to you at the first breeding.
Do you offer a "Pick of the Litter" Option?

We do not do "pick of the litter" because it is not a fair trade for either you or me. Why is it not fair? Because you may think "pick of the litter" is a great arrangement because it requires no cash upfront....that is until I show up at your house to pick up the smallest cutest puppy you have, that you worked so hard to make sure it ate well, and sat on the couch holding it for hours, and your kids are screaming and you are crying after I leave because that was everyone in the family's favorite puppy and you were going to keep it or give it to your sister so you could visit it, and "no" you can't buy it from me because I already have had a deposit on it for 4 weeks from an anxiously waiting couple. Then I sell that cutest smallest puppy for $800 or more when you could have done the same thing or kept it and only paid a $300 stud fee and not had any hassles or worries. It is a bad deal for me because I had to wait 4 months to be paid for my services (2 months of pregnancy, and 2 more months until the puppies are ready to go home). During those 4 months I had to worry about if you followed my recommendations about no flea treatments/pesticides (I wouldn't want a puppy born missing it's entire tail or born with an extra leg), I had to worry that the dewclaws were removed and removed properly, I had to worry that your vet didn't dock the tails too long or too short, I might have to place an ad in the paper to advertise one puppy, and then wait an additional time period until I come across the proper home. Meanwhile the puppy I picked up the puppy from you at 8 weeks old and now have at my home has been howling constantly because it is alone and misses it's brothers, sisters, and mamma dog. That is why I only accept a $300 cash stud fee and everyone is happy....and it is guaranteed or you can come back at the next heat cycle at no charge. I believe "Pick Of The Litter" is not all it's cracked up to be....for you or me.

Is it possible to breed my 20 pound female to your 5 lb. male?

YES! Both of my Teacup Schnauzer studs are 5 pounds and each of my own females and all females that have been brought to my home for stud services are 7-23 pounds. My studs are trained to hop onto folded bath towels that are placed behind the female while I hold the female in place. I usually breed the dogs in my kitchen. First they run around the kitchen for a couple of minutes to get aquainted. Then as soon as the stud realizes that she is in heat, he runs to me...jumping up and down waiting for his towels (:
